Low success rates on some courses and in key skills
The overall success rate for the college has improved from 77% to 82%.

Variable quality of academic support
A new on line target setting system was introduced in 06/07. An evaluation was carried out in May 07 which showed over 10,000 entries had been made by staff and students. Over 3,000 of these were student entries. ILPs for adults have been reviewed and amended in Skills for Life but still need to be implemented consistently on other adult courses

The quality of teaching and learning
The number of lessons grades good or better has increased to 77% against an average for GFE 0f 65% and Sixth Form colleges 75%

The Management and quality of skills for life and key skills
The management of key skills is now in one faculty following restructuring. Arrangements for embedding key skills were implemented in September 07. IT plus results were once again disappointing and following a review has been completely remodelled and from Sept 07 will be delivered as “research skills”

Weaknesses in self-assessment and action planning
All Programme Leaders were trained in setting SMART targets. New on-line self assessment documentation introduced which automatically generates actions for declining or below benchmark achievement or retention.

Target setting for a more ambitious improvement agenda
Restructuring of 2 colleges into one has now taken place. Directors and Faculties and Heads of Departments appointed with new roles and responsibilities. Level 3 courses. 16-18 courses exceed 6th form college benchmarks at levels 1 and 3. Level 2 and 3 value added are in the top 10% of institutions
