Stanmore College puts students first. Part of our commitment to students is the provision of a wide range of support services designed to help learners to overcome any problems that might stand in the way of them succeeding at college.

Student Services
Student Services provides a range of services to students including:

  • careers advice
  • support from a connexions adviser
  • help applying to university
  • a confidential counselling service
  • welfare advice on housing, benefits and childcare
  • information on financial support

We are located in Elm 12 (on the ground floor below the Learning Centre)
Our opening hours are
Mon – Fri   8.30am – 4.30pm  (term time)
Mon -  Fri   9.00am -  4.00pm  (holidays)

Financial Support

Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is a weekly allowance available to 16-19 year old full time students living on a low family income. Students can claim a weekly support allowance of up to £30 provided they attend 100% of their classes. Application forms are available from the college. For more up to date information on eligibility call the EMA Helpline on 080 810 16 2 19 or visit www.ema.dfes.gov.uk . Learner Support Fund (LSF) is available to students who are studying for a qualification and are on a means tested benefit. The LSF allowance will be paid towards expenses incurred for books, travel, exams and college trips. You can also claim for a small contribution towards the cost of the registered childcare you need in order attend college. The weekly support rate for eligible students in 2008-09 was £25. Application forms are available at College.

Adult Learning Grant (ALG) is a weekly allowanceof up to £30 per week. You can claim an ALG, if you are over 19 and living on a low family income and are studying for your first full-time level 2 or 3 course and not claiming out of work benefits such as Jobseekers Allowance and Income Support or inactive benefits such as Incapacity benefit. Applications are available from the college.

Inclusion
The Learning Support Department helps students with additional needs to achieve their goals at college by ensuring equality of access to the curriculum and to all college facilities

Support includes:

  • Specialist support and assessments for students who have additional needs
  • Continuous review and assessment of needs
  • Provision of specialist software and equipment as appropriate
  • Access to lifts for students who have mobility difficulties

Study Plus provides additional Literacy, Numeracy and English Language support to any student enrolled on a course. Students can attend one to one sessions, group sessions or a drop in. Study Plus provides a stimulating and supportive environment to develop skills according to individual needs and enables students to achieve their potential and successfully complete their course.
