Course Content

Work-based qualifications that give learners the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their competence in work or job role to which the qualification relates.

The qualification is built on seven mandatory units that form the fundamental knowledge and understanding of business sustainable resources. These qualifications also include a choice of four optional specialist units, thereby providing an opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the business sector. In addition, it introduces a limited number of specialist areas and the opportunity to acquire some of the practical skills identified by employers as the fundamental building blocks for future competence in the workplace.

Course Outcomes

One of the main purposes of the qualification is to help learners to progress, ultimately, to employment. Employers require learners to have certain technical skills, knowledge and understanding, but they also require employees to demonstrate employability skills. These skills enable learners to adapt to the roles needed to survive in the global economy and enhance their effectiveness in the workplace.

Employability skills include self-management, teamworking, business and customer awareness, problem solving, communication, basic literacy and numeracy, a positive attitude to work, and the use of IT.

The learners can progress to:

  • other Level 2 vocational qualifications and related competence-based qualifications for the Business sector
  • Level 3 vocational qualifications.
  • competency-based qualifications such as the NVQ Level 2 in either Business Administration or Team Leading, or NVQ Level 3 in either Business Administration or Management, or their corresponding apprenticeships.

Progression

This course is primarily for all learners who want to continue their education and develop their skills for progression to further learning and, ultimately, to employment. These qualifications prepare learners for further learning at a higher level in business. The development of transferable skills means that learners can also choose a study programme from alternative sectors. For example, these qualifications in business could lead to Pearson BTEC Level 2 qualifications in this sector, or to the Pearson BTEC Level 2 Apprenticeship in Retail, or to Level 2 qualifications in other sectors.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grades 3 including English and Maths or Level 1 qualification in Business.

Assessment

The qualification has mandatory and optional specialist units.

All units are internally assessed.
